Radial Artery

  • At the wrist the radial artery can be palpated easily
  • The deep branch of the radial artery can be palpated in the dorsally between the base of the thumb and index metacarpals.
  • The radial artery can also be assessed with a doppler.

Key Points
  • The blood supply of the hand comes primarily from the ulnar artery and the radial artery.
  • Medical procedures requiring puncture of the radial artery are common.
  • The radial artery is at risk for thrombosis during such procedures.
